What Happened this Year with our Seahawks?

Injuries are part of the game, and yes the 2008 Seattle Seahawks had more than they're share. That share was mostly in the wide-out position where everyone went down except rookie tight end [89} John Carlson { 51 rec.- 601 yds 11.8 yd. avg. 4 TD's}. Carlson has been the only bright spot for the Hawks, even though he has had his share of drops balls this year. The Seahawks are 3-11 right now and playoff hunt was long gone about 4 games ago. Who is to blame? Its first starts at the top with head coach Mike Holmgren announcing his retirement and naming Hawks secondary coach Jim Mora Jr. as the new Seahawks Coach for 2009, before this season even started. When you make an odd NFL rare anouncement like that it effects the players, and their play {Let down} going into that season. We have seen lackluster play on both sides of the ball this year with the Seattle Seahawks.

Great quarterbacks make people great around them. Quarterbacks are like point guards in the NBA, getting people the ball where they can succeed and not fail. Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is still forcing balls {5 TD's 10 int. passing rating of 57.8} Hasselbeck does not make other players better. Instead Matt gets fustrated then starts to put a wrench in the Seahawks offense with bad throws which lead to many three-and-outs. Is Matt Hasselbeck best years behind him? Matt Hasselback, and Marc Bulger have struggled the past 2 seasons. Even when they are healthy Matt, and Marc have struggled making plays in the red-zone. Quarterback Seneca Wallace has proved this year { 8 TD'S 1 Int. passing rating of 88.9} that he is not only a good back-up quarterback, but he also can be a solid starter when given a chance to play. Both Matt and Seneca have played hurt, and have played with the a lot of the same players {Patch work offensive line and recievers} and Matt Hasselbeck should have never come back after missing 5 games .

Coach Mike Holmgren should have shut Matt down for the rest of the year and let Matt's back heal. It was" fools gold" thinking that Matt would lead the Hawks to victory and back into the playoff hunt with a win over the Cardinals. Instead, we saw Matt forcing and throwing game ending interceptions against the Cardinals and Redskins. Still the media treats Matt like a Comic book hero with comments like "the reciever was slow on his route", "Matt was coming off a injury," and was "a little rusty. Excuses for Matt Hasselbeck bad play can not be tolerated anymore in this city.

The Titans, Jag's, Lions, Bears, and teams from the NFC South will be coming into Quest for the 2009 season. If Matt Hasselbeck starts next season for Hawks next year, his peformance has to be like {2005, 07} for him to keep his starting job. Seneca Wallace will push Matt this off-season for the starting position in {2009} at quarterback. Wallace has showed he can make the big throw or run during a game. Matt Hasselbeck must make better decisions when throwing and also reading the blitz {Audible, Check-down}. If Matt Hasselbeck does not play better early out the gate in pre-season[2009} and leading into regular season, look for Matt "Bulger" Hasselbeck to be holding a clip board for the Seahawks, or Matt moving on and playing for a new team in 2009!
